Kaua'i artist Carol Bennett was commissioned by Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts for this project.

The 8' x 48' photovoltaic glass canopy entitled Trigger Picasso Energy, is now permanently installed at the Hawaii State Art Museum Sculpture Garden.

The pattern is based on the Picasso trigger fish, also know as the Humuhumunukunukuapuaa Trigger which is the State fish of Hawaii.

It can be experienced in different ways:

• When seen from above, (offices and 3rd floor mezzanine) it is viewed like a reverse painting on glass.
• When you sit underneath it and look up it's a stained glass, it will cast brilliant shadows that will move with the sun
• at night it will glow from within

The intent is to encourage thinking about alternative energy choices creatively.

Carol worked with Glasmalerei Peters Studios in Germany. Founded almost a hundred years ago, it is one of the most renowned workshops for glass design using traditional and modern techniques.

For Carol, this project was several years from initial concept through final installation. The opening ceremony took place on May 4th, 2012.
