About the Artists:
Peter Cabrinha
Mixed media artist and photographer, Peter is known internationally as a surfing legend and master
water sportsman holding the world record for surfing the biggest wave ever (at that time) in 2004. It was a 70' wave at Jaws in Maui.
The same passion that has earned him world titles in surfing has also fueled his creative passion for
exploring and capturing the essence and mystery of life below the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Starting as a photographer, Pete now combines his images as just one element in his mixed media
works. His photographs often possess an otherworldly quality that, once juxtaposed against modern
color schemes and text, result in a curious mix of “days gone by” with a contemporary edge.
For Pete, the synergies between the art of surfing and the art of creating visual images are
great. He continues to be captivated by the dynamism between the relaxation and the
challenges that make up the creative experience.
Mike Field
Mike Field was born in Guam, but soon found himself on the Island of Oahu, in Hawaii. He received
a B.F.A. in 1990 from Loyola Marymount University, in Los Angeles, California.
Mike has come to truly embody all that is Hawaii and immersed himself in various island sports. –
from canoe paddling, surfing, canoe sailing, and open ocean swimming.
It is through these
experiences that Mike has found an abundance of inspiration for his creativity and artwork.
Mike has also worked with Lance Armstrong, and been an active participant in Live Strong water sports.
