Nancy Simonds to be featured in On the Rocks opening June 26 at Susan Eley Fine Art in NYC.

 

Our new gallery artist, Nancy Simonds, will be included in the

upcoming exhibit, On The Rocks at Susan Eley Fine Art, 46 West 90 Street, NYC.  The exhibit will open on June 26 with a reception from 6-8pm

 

On the Rocks will feature 60 paintings, works on paper, monoprints, photographs and sculptures that depict majestic mountain ranges, rocky crags, bluffs, peaks, hills, steep cliffs and monoliths. It will run through August 29.

 

According to the Boston artist, Simonds "In painting each piece there is an experience of exhilaration and renewal. In each painting I stack and pile simple shapes, placing then sizing and creating visual relationships that build to larger rhythms. My best paintings work like Japanese haiku; each image is paired down to its essentials and each becomes a complete world of its own. In these paintings I aim for an effect deeper than the joy of beautiful surface and color; I want to generate visual places, points of departure for states of serenity and contemplation."

 

Nancy Simonds, a graduate of the school of the Museum of Fine Arts and Smith College, has been exhibiting her work since 1978 in solo and group shows throughout the US.  Her work is in public and private collections.
