Biography:

Dean Moore is a New York City-based emerging mixed media artist. Being self-taught, Dean has experimented with various mediums and finds deconstruction to be a consistent theme in his work.

Currently focusing on mosaics, Dean meticulously hand cuts ceramic tile, porcelain tile and glass into thousands of fragments—shaping and filing each piece precisely before thoughtfully positioning them together to create impactful mosaics. Dean strategically adds emotion and depth to each mosaic, eliciting a sense of delicacy through each shattered piece. Dedicating many hours to preparation, using photographs and sketches, he gathers the details needed to produce these unique mosaics.

Dean’s artistry was shown in his debut art show at the Greenpoint Gallery in April 2024 where he took 2nd place out of 70 artists.

In the past, Dean used cereal boxes to create collages of popular sneakers. He has undertaken personal commissions for NBA clients including Payton Pritchard (Boston Celtics) and Ty Jerome (Cleveland Cavaliers).

Inspired by his mother, who is a lifelong artist herself, Dean recalls his interest in art being one of the first things they bonded over.

Statement:

I’m a New York City based emerging mixed media artist, inspired by the process of deconstructing to reconstruct. My current work focuses on assembling mosaic portraits using thousands of tile and glass fragments. I meticulously hand cut and file each piece into various shapes and sizes to bring these portraits to life. Using this ancient technique, my goal is to find cohesion in each fragment to portray the iconic faces of artists, athletes, celebrities and more. Dedicating many hours to preparation, I use photographs and sketches to gather every detail necessary to produce stunningly unique mosaics in hopes to captivate my viewers.
