“World Music: Visual Poetry in Motion" opens Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 at the Living Room Gallery at Saint Peter's Church in the midtown Citicorp building (619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street)

Curated by Lisa Cooper of Elisa Contemporary Art, the new exhibit is a one-woman show featuring the paintings of Egyptian-born Artist and Writer, Carole Naggar.

This new exhibit presents the artist's most recent work, a series entitled "Scores" based on and inspired by a book of 19th Century Japanese music scores, as well as works on paper created over the past six years.

According to Carole Naggar, "Music is a thread that weaves though my life. From the concerts where I sang in choir in churches throughout France as an adolescent... to the Egyptian Jews who introduced me to Arabic music... to the synagogue where my children chanted ancient Hebrew verses..."

The exhibit combines the panoramas of her Palimpsests series to the current series entitled Scores, which are large squares of large bold calligraphic notations against a burst of fluid color pigment. Carol invites her viewers to hear the energy and movement of the music that inspired the work.

Artists Reception will take place on Thursday, September 10th from 4:30 - 7:30 pm

The exhibit will run through September 24th, 2009. Saint Peter's Church is open from 8am to 8pm daily. Call ahead for gallery hours. (212) 935-2200.

5% of gallery commissions from sales are donated to Free Arts NYC or other charitable organizations dedicated to inspiring and healing disadvantaged children through the arts
